You can achieve your dreams….........

Here Mark Straker shares how he achieved his life time ambition.Mark had a dream to develop a short movie that could influence disaffected children in schools around the UK, then Europe and then the World. Mark was working for Stevenage Council when he attended his first NLP business training delivered by David Key in 2005.

It was during his training that Mark used an NLP process designed by David Key called the NLP PRESENT (which creates a pseudo disorientation in time using timelines, future pacing, well formed outcome questions and movement) and was designed to enable Auspicium students of NLP to create very compelling goals, Mark made his goal even more exciting by deciding he wanted to create his short drama and enter it into some Film Awards because he had another dream. He wanted to win a Hollywood Award for his film!

In 2007 Mark’s film, “One of US” was selected by the Beverly Hills Film Festival from thousands of entrants. He was down to the last 5 when he recieved a call from the organisers of the Beverley Hills Film Festival. They flew Mark and his film collaborators first class to Hollywood and YES…..to his surprise and amazement, his film was awarded WINNER of Best Short Drama 2007.

So, you see, you can achieve amazing things if you just start to believe it’s possible and you’re capable and most of all that you’re worthy of success! (whatever that means to you)

We’ve all heard that it’s tough out there at the moment and successful businesses are always looking for new ways to improve their business performance. This is especially true in the selling department. In fact, it is probably more important than ever to have a highly skilled and flexible sales force, capable of dealing with the actual psychology of people selling and knowing what this means.

With this in mind, Anglia Business magazine posed a few questions to David Key, managing director and head of research and development at Ware-based NLP training academy, Auspicium Ltd.

Why learn about NLP?

Well, even with basic NLP skills you’ll find yourself achieving improvements in your communication, rapport building and goal setting, which have a proven and positive effect on business performance, including your bottom line.

Only last year, a young sales person on a four-day NLP business diploma with Auspicium discovered he was irritating a potential client with his direct authoritarian approach. He actually received a telephone call during the course from his client ending their business relationship. After he pleaded for a second chance and after learning some powerful NLP skills, he met the client one more time and secured a £12 million construction project with 22 per cent gross profit.

I wonder how much revenue sales people lose because they don’t get on with the client? If it’s a lot, then how many sales people get told by the client that the reason they didn’t buy your stuff was because they didn’t like, trust or feel comfortable with you? The answer is probably none.

By the way, if that’s never happened to you, brilliant, keep doing what you’re doing. And if this does apply to you that’s fine too because there is no such thing as failure, this is what I’d call feedback.

Remember though, if you don’t change your approach with difficult clients then you’ll keep getting the same results. Think about doing something different.
So, getting good at rapport (which has behavioural structure that includes using your physiology a certain way, voice tonality and specific words) along with a range of other NLP soft skills could make that all-important difference to you and your clients. If our young sales person hadn’t changed his approach he would have lost £12 million to a competitor. Ouch!

What if you don’t get client rapport?

I believe people buy from people who are like themselves, which is why I know the NLP skills we teach are extremely effective in helping people build much better relationships.

If you don’t get unconscious rapport with prospective or existing clients then you probably spend whole sales discussions, meetings or presentations having to deal with resistance. Have you ever tried to take a 1000lb stallion to water who didn’t want to go?

Also, I feel customers don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. Do you care about your customers, I mean really care? I know plenty of sales people who don’t care about buyer remorse. If that happens, say goodbye recommendation and hello to Chinese whispers starting with “don’t touch that company with a barge pole”.

How else can NLP skills be used?

With NLP you can learn skills for dealing with people who perceive the world differently from you, which will help improve relations with peers, bosses, customers, new prospects and across cultural divides in multinational companies. Many leaders and consultants in businesses have turned to the innovative aspects of NLP for inspiration in organisational development, teambuilding and strategic planning and leadership skills.

Briefly, what is NLP?

Neuro-linguistic programming is a powerful body of information about how the human mind works built up since the 1970s and continuing to evolve through new research. At the heart of NLP is a range of methods offered for understanding how people think, behave and change. NLP training provides the skills to define and achieve your goals and a heightened awareness of your five senses, allowing you to remain flexible, on track and maintain rapport with those around you.

Recommend five things to increase your chances of success

1.	Have an outcome for everything you do
2.	Have the sensory acuity to notice if you are on track with your outcome
3.	Have the flexibility to change your approach if you’re not on track
4.	Have rapport with yourself and others when useful (which is most of the time)
5.	Have the awareness to manage your emotional state when things aren’t going your way

In one sentence, what should we remember when selling?

Resistance in a client is a sign that there is a lack of rapport with the client and more likely with yourself. You may be wise to consider changing your approach, but keep going.

Here is a short montage to get you thinking. All the people shown in this short montage have succeeded to achieve some amazing results. One thing they all have in common is, they all believed they could have what they wanted even though they didn’t always know HOW they would get their goals. Your beliefs will support you in acheiving what you believe, positive or negative. What empowering or limiting beliefs do you hold deep in your unconscious ? Do they support you or stop you ?

Why blog about Napoleon Hill….well…it was a very long time ago I was given a book called “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. It was a gift froim a friend along with 1 other book which I’ll get to soon in a future blog. Anyway, I must have read “Think and Grow Rich” many times before I understood his messages. So….what was the messages I hear you ask….pretty simple really (although it was a few years before I got them)...Take responsibility for everything (yes everything) you do, feel and think about, take back control of your own thinking and STOP other people getting in there and playing around with your mind.

Create a really clear picture/movie in your minds eye of what you really want and not what you don’t want. Don’t wait to feel good, learn how to feel good for the hell of it now. And many many more useful strategies can be elicited from his words of wisdom.

You can experience HOW to do this with NLP on our complimentary trainings or just come and do your NLP Practitioner training with us now and learn how you can really start to model excellence in any field.

Take a look at this YouTube video of Napoleon Hill talking about his meeting with Andrew Carnegie. Usefil words of widom from our past.

Epoch Times interview David Key on the power of using NLP for achieving your New Year Resolutions

How to keep your New Year’s Resolutions - using NLP

By Mastoor Khan

The statistics on how many people actually manage to follow through with their New Years resolutions make slightly depressing reading.

A study of 3000 people carried out by the University of Hertfordshire found that by the end of the year, only 12% of these people had managed to stick to their New Year’s resolutions. Here’s another sad statistic: three quarters of people who make a resolution to stop smoking start up again – usually very soon after they’d quit.

Every January, without fail, gyms are inundated with hopefuls, buzzing from their New Year’s celebrations, forking out for yearly memberships. In fact gyms will take on new members, vastly over capacity, safe in the knowledge that for most people any enthusiasm for the treadmill will fizzle out well before February. Setting a self betterment goal - and then not being able to carry it through successfully is very demoralising. Is it just difficult because we all lack will-power?

David Key, NLP trainer and consultant at Auspicium Ltd, tells us how the science of NLP sheds light on why so many New Year resolutions fail dismally.

“We get what we think about, you see. And we think faster than we realise. Here’s something to ponder: there are more cells in the human body than there are stars in five galaxies - and every cell is affected by what we think. NLP can help; it provides the equivalent of a user-manual for our brain.”

“I had a client who came to me with his goal – he said he needed me to coach him to achieve it. And this was something that he’d wanted for a very, very long time. His goal was to have a tidier office. His desk and paperwork were a mess. He could never find anything when he needed it. Consequently everything was chaos and took him much longer than it should have done. Now, this may seem like a very small thing, and something very easy to resolve – all he had to do was to tidy up after all – but he just hadn’t been able to do it and it was really detracting from his quality of life.”

“So I sat him down and asked him a few simple questions.

What do you really want? “I don’t want a messy office any more.”

So, what do you want instead? “Well, I’d like a tidy office.”

What else will change in your life when you have a tidy office? “I’ll be able to find things when I need them.

What will happen when you’re able to find things when you need them? “I’ll be able to do things more quickly.”

What else will you get if you’re able to do things more quickly? “I’ll have more time to spend with my wife and kids.”

“That was his light bulb moment. He suddenly jumped up and said, ‘Erm, you know what David? I don’t think I need coaching. I’m off to tidy my office up right now.’”

Once people have clarified what it is that they do want, instead of what they don’t want, and thought through all of the positive benefits of making that change, in a logical way, it gives clarity to the goal.”
“Whilst my client had been focusing on the mess and how much he hated his chaotic surroundings, and how miserable it was making him, he wasn’t able to see the solution. For the brain, every behaviour has a positive intention (also known as a hidden benefit), whatever it is. This is one of the fundamental beliefs of Neuro-linguistic programming. This client’s intention for not tidying his office was to save him more time, but actually it had the opposite effect.
One of the defining characteristics of all successful people – in whatever field – is that they set compelling goals for themselves. It seems people need goals in life. Without them, you’re like a ship drifting without a rudder. But it’s not enough to simply set yourself a goal. Goals need to be framed correctly. Take a look at how the top three of the ten most common resolutions are framed, linguistically, and you’ll see why most NYRs fail.

1. Get out of Debt
2. Lose Weight
3. Give Up Smoking

“What NLP users learn,” David continues, “are tried and tested techniques for communicating with our brains in very precise terms. Modelling skills based on observations and questioning of really successful people. NLP helps with clarifying our true goals in life. Many people mistake tasks for outcomes. Tasks are what you do to achieve outcomes. You may or may not enjoy them. When you know they are getting you what you want, you can bring more energy to them and enjoy them more.”

“Often there is incongruence between what people really want and what they’re doing every day to get what they want. Much of the time, peoples’ actions and thoughts are simply self-sabotaging.
“I have clients who come to me with fairly small goals,” David says, “And clients who have come to see me with very ambitious goals. The process that the brain needs to go through is the same. One client, who’d had a well-run but modest bakery for twelve years, wanted a multi-million pound business within two years. He had one two-hour session with me a month, for 18 months. After 18 sessions, his business was turning over in excess of £3m. And I never gave him one bit of advice… I just asked some good questions.”

“Stopping smoking is one of the most common goals. I set tasks for people, before I coach them, an example may be that they keep a smoking diary for a week. Jot down timings, where they were, what they were thinking about when they smoked. This identifies all their smoking triggers. I can also tell when they’re making it up. Approximately 70% of people keep the diary. The other 30% don’t come back; because it’s too difficult a task. Of the people who do come back, there’s a very high success rate. Nicotine is only in the bloodstream for two days. It’s their beliefs that need changing. Typically, they’re able to stop smoking within two hours.

Having said that, smokers all stop smoking in between puffs and cigarettes anyway. So they already know how to STOP, it’s just motivation that needs addressing.

Auspicium courses are held in the beautiful surroundings of Fanhams Hall Hotel in Hertfordshire, and other carefully chosen venues around the UK.

A limited number are available on a complimentary basis. David Key says, “the complimentary courses are for people who are new to NLP, to come and find out more about it first-hand. People can then go on for a further two days and obtain their NLP diploma, if they wish, then go on and qualify as a Practitioner and then Master Practitioner.

We set a lot of time aside for goal setting, as it’s very important to most people. We cover a lot of ground - rapport skills, conflict resolution, curing phobias, busting habits, developing sensory acuity and really learning how language effects the brain. We dispel lots of common NLP and hypnosis myths.”

There’s a full listing of courses on http://www.auspicium.co.uk or phone 0845 434 0149 and speak to an advisor.

Tips for setting a New Year’s (or any time of year) resolution

•	If you’re unhappy about something: ask yourself what do I want instead?
•	Any NYR that has the words ‘lose’, ‘give up’, or ‘don’t want’ is negative. It involves losing something and is consequently more difficult to keep.
•	Say: ‘I want to be financially free’, better still ‘I want x £ bank balance on 31st December 09,’ the more specific the better, rather than, ‘I don’t want to be in debt.’ This subtle difference can make or break your NYR.
•	There are three fundamental questions that successful people tick.
1. Is my goal possible for me to achieve?
2. Am I capable?
3. Am I worthy of achieving this goal?

People like people like themselves. That’s a given.

Stop and think about this, how is it then, that so many salespeople get on well with so many different types of buyers, only to find out that, when there is a clash or breakdown in communication, between buyer and salesperson, they don’t know what to do? (apart from shrug their shoulders and say to themselves “it’s their loss!” as the buyer walks away irritated and buys from someone else).

At Auspicium we know that it’s purely down to their strategy and that their communication strategies are not working in that particular frame or context.

So what have we done about it ? Auspicium have developed a unique training course purely for people who wish to become even more successful and flexible in their people relationships. Here’s the thing, Excelling in Selling is a 2 day NLP training where we don’t teach anyone how to sell! Curious ?

You are probably wondering why you should choose Auspicium for your salespeople development, well, our sales trainers are Certified NLP Trainers (ABNLP and INLPTA) who have had at least 15 years in selling to global companies before training in NLP, so, we’ve been there and walked our talk and still do.

Auspicium are in the business of training coaches and NLP Practitioners and Master Practitioners and generally, helping people raise their game.

Click through to the Corporate Development pages and download the “Excelling in Selling with NLP” brochure now and then, when you feel you would benefit from enhancing your own or your teams sales performance, give us a call. We’d be glad to help you if we can.

Happy New Years resolutions…............2008

Don’t think about Father Xmas NOW!

Now what did you just think of? And do you usually think about what you want in your life such as, health and fitness, loving relationships, successful business, great job, financial security, or do you think about it in terms of what you don’t want, i.e. not wanting to be sick any more, not being late, not wanting to be in abusive relationships, being broke all the time? And what did you just think of?

You see, we get what we think about. And we think faster than we realise. There are more cells in the human body than there are stars in five galaxies - and every cell is affected by what we think. Makes you think, doesn’t it?

NLP teaches you how you do what you do. How you take in information from the world around you, what you do with that information inside your head, and how what you do results in states of depression or joy, a healthy or unhealthy physiology and behaviours that lead to positive outcomes.

Learning the art and science of NLP is like starting a degree course. It’s not necessarily a quick fix (although it could well be) but a fundamental paradigm shift in how you experience life. NLP is ‘An attitude and a methodology that leaves behind a trail of techniques’. The trail of techniques is one thing, it’s a base, an introduction; it’s your attitude and methods you use that make using NLP an art form.

So whether you want to experience NLP in your head or your heart contact Auspicium an organisation that genuinely delights in life, business and has endless curiosity about how you do what you do.

NLP is seriously life changing - it’s also FUN!

NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, enables you to achieve personal and business goals more quickly and effectively than ever before. In other words, you can do more of what you want, get more, know more, and, especially, be what you want.

“NLP is an attitude and a methodology that leaves behind a trail of techniques” - Richard Bandler

NLP will show you the way to:

build personal relationships
increase your persuasive skills
have a positive mental attitude
increase your self-esteem
overcome the effects of past negative experiences
focus on goals and channel your energy into achieving them
control the way you feel
align your values and beliefs with what you want to achieve
change unwanted habits
feel confident in whatever you attempt to do
perform at your best
achieve goals you previously considered impossible
establish rapport with clients, customers and work colleagues easily and instantly
find creative ways to solve problems
enjoy activities you used to fear
use your time more effectively
increase your sense of purpose in life
acquire the skills you admire in others
get more pleasure out of life

NLP is about communication

One of the principles of NLP is that we are always communicating and a very large proportion of our communication is other than words. NLP provides practical tools for becoming highly skilled communicators.

NLP is about language

Language affects how we think and respond. The very process of converting experience into language requires that we condense, distort, and summarise how we perceive the world. NLP provides questions and patterns to make communication more as we intend. NLP teaches us to understand how language affects us through implicit and embedded assumptions.

NLP is about modelling excellence

NLP processes/strategies are a result of discovering how experts or excellent leaders do what they do so well; it is then possible to teach these skills to others. Modelling skills, based on detailed observations and careful questions around beliefs and values, are the key to competence in NLP Learning the specific components of how others do something well will provide you with new options and accelerated learning.

NLP is about mastering your mind

NLP describes, in very precise terms, the images, sounds, and feelings that make up our inner and outer world. How do we know what we know? How do we do what we do? For example, how do you know that a pleasant memory is pleasant? How do you know when to feel scared or happy at certain times? How do you like or dislike something? How do you learn a subject easily, or not? NLP provides us with the equivalent of a user’s manual for our brain - NLP techniques demonstrate how we `code’ our experience. When we understand the specific ways that our brains make distinctions, then it is easier to make changes, to learn and to communicate effectively.

NLP is the study of internal experience

NLP is a tool to calibrate and understand how an individual makes sense of the world. NLP studies individuals’ experiences: how our thoughts, actions and feelings work together to produce our experience. It does NOT assume that we all do this the same way. It does NOT produce formulae for body language or even eye movements without understanding the individual. In NLP we know that each person has a unique style of learning, perceiving and responding to the world. NLP is inherently respectful of differences.

NLP has a wide range of practical applications in business (e.g. management, personnel, sales, consulting), training and development, education, law, medicine, health, farming, writing and the arts, sports, parenting, hobbies and personal development - anywhere communicating and excelling are important. The more you are interested in communication, personal effectiveness and development - the more NLP has to offer.

How can I get started?

Train with Auspicium because we are members of the American Board of Neuro Linguistic Programming (ABNLP) and (ANLP) and run Certified NLP training programmes. We hold regular introduction to NLP workshops. For business we run both “NLP in Business” Diploma and Practitioner, and provide a wide range of NLP-based business training and consultancy

Make 2008 an extra special year for yourself and your family. Happy New Year!!!

By Alison Coleman - Daily Express Nwspapers

IN the world of personal development and self-improvement, trends come and go, but one technique that has stood the test of time is Neuro Linguistic Programming, or NLP.

It teaches us why we think and act the way we do, and more importantly, how to change those thought processes and behaviours for the better.

NLP was developed 30 years ago and the business world was quick to spot the value of a technique that gave them a much better understanding of what their customers were thinking.

In recent years, NLP has become more mainstream, says Michael Carroll, founder and course director of the NLP Academy, who describes it as “a powerful tool for bringing about personal change”.

He said: “The applications for NLP are extremely broad. You can use it to improve the way you communicate with others at work and your performance in the office. It can help you get rid of unwanted habits, such as phobias and smoking, and alleviate stress and anxiety.”

The fact is, NLP is something that everyone can benefit from
Matt Caulfield, the Society of NLP

The NLP training industry has branched into specialist areas, such as sports performance and career development.

Murielle Maupoint, founder of Live It Ventures, has tapped into a huge market by offering NLP training courses for women. She said. “In spite of equality laws, women are still disadvantaged in the workplace. But it is my belief that they disadvantage themselves, through low esteem and self-confidence. They simply don’t ask for what they want.

“NLP training can help to get rid of the mental barriers that make women feel they are under-achieving.”

For some people, the impact of NLP on their lives and careers is such that they decide to become practitioners themselves.

Matt Caulfield, a licensed trainer with lead accrediting body the Society of NLP, says that their skills are in demand.

He said: “NLP is still widely used in business circles and that has created huge opportunities for NLP practitioners to go into the workplace and work with the staff.

“We are increasingly working with teachers and nurses, who see a real improvement in their performance and the way they communicate with their students and patients.

“The fact is, NLP is something that everyone can benefit from.”

And Auspcium agrees.

My ballooning fears are over
28 March 2007
EDITORIAL - whtimes@archant.co.uk

For 33 years, ever since his mother popped a balloon near his face, Paul Reason has lived with his phobia

A FEAR of balloons is not your everyday phobia.

However, a man who has been tormented by the air-filled rubber objects for 33 years has been cured.

Paul Reason, 39, from Hyde Valley, WGC, won a competition on radio station Hertbeat FM to meet a phobia expert who could rid him of his irrational fear - also known as globophobia - on Friday.

Mr Reason, whose mother first popped a balloon near his face when he was six, was cured with treatment by Auspicium, which involved visualising a life without his fear.

He said: “It was nothing like I expected. I was shaking and had hot sweats.

“I even broke down before. I used to hate having balloons anywhere near my face.”

After the treatment which took place live on air, Mr Reason was “amazed” that he could now be close to balloons without shaking or even passing out.

Mr Reason, father of Sophie, seven, and Joshua, five, was also delighted that his life will no longer be “hindered” by balloons.

“I am really happy for my children. We can have balloons around at birthdays and Christmas now.

“This can only change my life for the better,” he said.

Auspicium director David Key administered the treatment on Mr Reason.

He said: “We taught him a model of someone who had already overcome this phobia.

“It was great to see Paul react the way he did as he was petrified beforehand.”
